Science with Mrs. Roxanna will be fun, hands-on, and at your own pace. I enjoy facilitating science in an integrated fashion-- a little bit of biology, chemistry, and physics with a splash of creativity and a dash of laughter! I attended SDSU and earned a B.S. in Foods & Nutrition with a minor in Spanish. I ran track and cross-country for the Aztecs!
I worked for about 15 years as a community nutritionist/health educator for the County Health Dept., Vista Community Clinic, and Scripps Whittier Institute for Diabetes Research. I also taught Health and Nutrition courses for five years at South Western Community College in San Ysidro. During this time I served in the Army Reserves for six years as a Food and Health Inspector.
I have a science credential in Biology and a Masters of Education with an emphasis in pedagogy. I have been an educational partner at the Learning Choice Academy Charter School since 2007. I have taught science from K-12, created our online biology and chemistry moodle courses, implemented Spanish Café, served as the yearbook adviser and currently coordinate the 100 mile Running Club at Scripps. I have been married for about 20 years, have two amazing sons, several chihuahuas and fish and one cat! When I'm not teaching you can find me cooking or running (ok...jogging).
At TLC Academy, I enjoy the energy and creativity of the kids, collaborating with their parents, and working with a school that has a family appeal where you get to mentor kids from kinder to graduation.
Now that is TLC!
